lies I've been told, truths I've learned

lie: "when you are an adult you can do what you want, when you want"
truth:  mature adults find themselves delaying some things because it is not the appropriate time or place. mature adults also realize that some things we want to do are not the right thing to do so we deny ourselves. also, when you are an adult there a lot of things that you'd rather not do, but you do them anyway, because that is what mature adults do.

lie: "big girls don't cry"
truth: big girls do cry. so do big boys. keep good kleenex close at hand.

lie: tears are a sign of weakness
truth: it takes great strength to to allow others to see your tears

lie: "hang in there, it's all going to be okay"
truth: it will never all be okay on this side of heaven

lie: "time heals all wounds"
truth: Jesus heals all wounds-sometimes that doesn't happen until heaven

lie: " 'it' will get easier with time"
truth: time slowly removes you from the immediacy and fresh rawness of "it". you may grow stronger and better able to bear "it" with less struggling, but that does not mean "it" has gotten any easier

lie: warrior or princess, you can't be both
truth: I am a daughter of the One True King, God Almighty. I am a warrior princess. I have scars from the battles I have been in. I am confident there will be more battles, more wounds, more scars. I also rest in the promise that one day there will be no more fighting. One day I will be with the Lord. On that day I will receive my crown. Until then, I want to fight the good fight.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:10-17

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
