Daddy's Home

I went to watch Tiff and Garrett and a few other friends play softball Monday night. I rode to the field with Anita. Izak was cold so she left early to take him home to warm up. I wanted to stay and asked Garrett if he could give me a ride after the game. An unexpected pleasure was getting to catch up with two friends, one was just a boy the last time we talked and now he is a fine young man.

My heart was full as I climbed up into Garrett's truck.

All it took was one full breath after I closed the door for my eyes to become more full than my heart because the scent inside transported me to another place and time. I was not sitting in Garrett's truck, I was sitting by my daddy in his truck.

It was a sweet moment.

One I didn't realize I longed for.

I love how God works.

20 years ago tomorrow, October 5, my daddy went home to live with Jesus when his battle with lung cancer ended. He spent the last five days of his life on earth in a wonderful hospice care facility. Several times that week he asked me if I knew my way home. He wanted to make sure I wouldn't get lost. It's amazing to me, because I know he meant more than making it from Akron to Grayson, and he'd only been a Jesus follower a little over a year. I finally brought my Bible into his room from my car, showed it to him and assured him I knew the way. He didn't ask again. Friend, I pray you know Jesus. I pray you follow Him. I pray He is or becomes the love of your life. He is the only way Home.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."” John 14:1-6 NIV
