homecoming
Homecoming is a loaded word.
When my children were little it took place at about 5:30 every evening when their daddy walked in the door from work.
When they started public school it occurred at about 3:30 every day when they walked through the door after their day at work! (Later if there were extracurricular activities.)
For my children who are now young adults, half of them with families of their own, it is when they leave where they are to come here and again when they leave here to return home.
For Ruth, my 18 year old daughter, last week and this it includes making a poster, writing a short bio, being on court, missing a soccer game, being in a parade, buying a new dress and all that goes with that, a football game, an escort to the dance that is coming from Ohio with the bonus that he is 6'4" tall and she can wear "killer" heels.
For the members of my church it is the service and dinner that follows the first Sunday on October every fall.
For members of our military and their families it is what they pray they will live to participate in after their time of deployment is served.
If you are a Christian I hope it is what you are looking forward to when this temporary life on earth ends.
"I'm kind of homesick for a country, to which I've never been before. No sad goodbyes there will e're be spoken because time won't matter anymore. Beulah Land, I'm longing for you, and someday on thee I'll stand. There my home will be eternal. Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land. I'm looking now across the river where my faith shall end in sight. Just a few more weary days to labor. Then I will take my heavenly flight." written by John S Hurt.
