balcony life

Balconies are a part of most, if not all apartments here in Tbilisi. I think it is a way to make city life not so "closed in". It adds living space and a place that some use to garden and/or hang laundry. The balconies on the front of the buildings, those that face the main street, tend to be a little more eye appealing than the ones built on the back of buildings.

This picture is taken from the balcony on the back of a coffee house. I needed to use the Water Closet and was pointed toward a door and told the WC was on the other side of it. Imagine my surprise when I found myself outside. A room had been built on the balcony to house the toilet and a sink. It was definitely better than an outhouse, but it was a bit chilly.

This balcony is on a building across from the bus stop we wait at on Sunday mornings. It is on the same side of the street as Deborah's apartment. We've passed it several times when we've been walking. And every time, I stop, at least mentally, and imagine the wonderful fellowship it has hosted. This is, without a doubt, my favorite.

Squirrel moment:
Tonight I am thankful for the balcony people in my life-friends who reach down to pull me up...
