secret treasures

occasionally I am given a gift that is priceless
one that I would like to share
but I can't
last week seemed to be full of secret treasures
invaluable gifts, tangible and intangible

some were obscure
some might cause others pain
some would diminish if they were shared
some would hold no value for anyone else
some are secret simply because there are no words to describe them

sometimes I wrestle with guilt
I wonder "why should I be the one so richly blessed?"
slowly I have come to realize that these gifts are given to me to enjoy
and while I must not take them for granted
I am not expected to share them

secret treasures
they cause me to pause
they are designed to be hidden
they fill my heart with thanks giving
they originate from the lavish love of my Heavenly Father

"Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
James 1:16-17

  1. I had a special gift this week. From my kitchen window, I could see a tree blooming in the woods that I have never noticed before. It was in the direction of my husband's tree stand that he always hunted deer from. (he also fell out of it last fall and fractured the tibial plateau in his knee) I was drawn to this blooming tree but was thinking it was just an apple tree. So yesterday my son and I went for a walk in the woods and went in that direction to see what kind of tree it was. Much to my surprise, it is a white dogwood tree. It has been there for years as it is fairly tall. There is also another one farther down in the woods. I love dogwood trees but this is the first year I have ever noticed that tree and I have lived here 30 years. Also on the tree where his tree stand is, there is a hole at the bottom of the tree. While looking at it, I noticed it kinda has the shape of a heart. In all the years that my husband has hunted, I have never gone into the woods to check out his tree stands. Since he passed away, I have been drawn to this tree several times and now I know why. I love the secret treasures that come out of nowhere. Thank you for sharing!!!!
