Sassy, and I love her

if I had to describe my Aunt Judy in one word
sassy would probably be it
all of my life
I have known she will bluntly speak her mind,
often with an attitude

I found out last week that she is in hospice care
I was finally able to make the 300 mile trip to see her today
I didn't know what to expect
circumstances have caused it to be a few years since I last saw her
a friend was sitting by her bed when I walked in the room

they both were surprised, almost speechless, to see me
which made me ashamed,
I wish I had done a better job keeping in contact with her,
maybe then she at least wouldn't have been so surprised when I walked in
it didn't take long before my aunt was her typical self

as I sit here tonight,
thankful for safe travel and blessed by our visit
I am reminded yet again of something important:
telling people you love them
should be done more than once a year in Christmas card...

I will be going back to see her tomorrow...
and the day after that
and each day I am here
at least that is my plan,
and I have no doubt she'll let me know when she has had enough!
