Doc's medicine

All I wanted to do at 8:30 Thursday morning, while the kids worked through their team devotional, was enjoy the glider on the balcony and spend 25 minutes alone with Jesus, the babbling creek and the singing birds. My intent was to write some thoughts of reflection in my journal, read my Bible, pray and possibly write some more before heading into the building for more training and testimonies.
I sat down and took a deep breath of the rain laced air before reaching into my bag for my journal and pen.
Doc had other plans.
He jumped into my lap, purring as he lept.
I have been outside several different times this week, sitting in that same spot and Doc has never appeared.
For a split second I thought about pushing him back to the ground, and in that time of hesitation he settled in and I settled down.
Seriously, as the heat from his body penetrated the fabric of the jeans I was wearing, my whole body and spirit relaxed, even as my mind and "common sense"  battled for me to follow through with my plans, trying to convince me to ignore what quickly felt like a clear invitation from God to simply sit in His presence and soak in the pleasure of my senses being filled by the beauty surrounding me. From the rain hitting the metal roof, to the fresh smell permeating the air, to the birds singing His praises, to the content purr of Doc and the warmth of his body on a wet, cool morning. I'm so thankful God sent Doc to get my attention.
