reviving an old practice 134/366

being chosen
invited in
included
is powerful
life giving
encouraging
invigorating

it has been too many years
since I regularly practiced offering hospitality to people who are not kin
I had all but forgotten that the energy I receive,
the purpose I find,
the blessings that abound
by sharing an evening together in my home over a meal
far outweigh the work that comes before and after

tonight I had flashbacks to when having people in was a regular practice,
friends when we lived in Ohio,
groups of college students after we moved to Grayson,
I desperately need that in my life again,
so tomorrow I will begin to prepare simple menus,
making lists of people,
looking forward to the day I can invite them to share a meal here

I will never be the "hostess with the mostest"
the one who dazzles people with pristine place settings and fancy meals,
but I can be a hostess who offers a comfortable place to gather,
where children are welcome and good food is served,
and through those gatherings,
if history repeats itself,
some of my guests will become family

too much caffeine too late in the day has meal ideas rolling tonight!
homemade chicken pot pie
baked spaghetti
soups and/or chili
grilled chicken
hamburgers or pork chops and hot dogs
pulled pork or beef...the possibilities are endless!
