it began 6,148 miles away 179/366
I am sitting on my back porch this evening, feeling like I need windshield wipers to swipe across my eyeballs to clear my vision, knowing I don't because the reason things look a little hazy is there is sand from the Sahara Desert in my air here! Sand from 6,148 miles away is impacting my day and choices. I didn't work outside or walk today because the air quality is negatively affected.
That got me thinking about how things work. If I drop a pebble in still water, ripples form and slowly but surely their reach expands exponentially. The bigger the pebble/stone/rock/boulder, dropped in the right place, at the right time, the larger the impact. But, again, even a tiny pebble makes a difference in things around it.
Snowflakes, individually, are beautiful, but easily overlooked or dismissed by themselves. Snowballs, sledding, snow cream, snow angels, snowmen, etc. require individual flakes to join together.
Everything I do creates a ripple effect. When I smile at a stranger, speak a kind word to the cashier, write an encouraging message to a friend, cheer on a hard working student, recognize and compliment a worker who is going above and beyond, that person's life and the people they interact with and the people those people interact with afterward is impacted. If I grumble, complain, am rude or impatient a totally different effect is made.
When I allow God to work in and through me, it is a beautiful thing. As a Jesus follower, I am part of the body of Christ. When I join with others who share the same heart and ministry, a larger, more beautiful, complete impact can be made.
Do you feel like you are wandering in a desert place right now? Wondering if anything you do is or ever will make an impact? It does. You may not be there to see it, but nothing we do or don't do, positive or negative, ever affects only ourselves. So keep applying the sunscreen, stay hydrated (Jesus is the Living Water), rest when you can and trudge on, looking for and taking advantage of every oasis you come across. Don't ever give up. Your influence could reach across thousands of miles.
