outnumbered! 160/366
mommas with multiple children in their care,
(actually, anyone with more than one child in their sphere of influence at the same time)
have you ever been in this position?
sitting, minding your own business,
trying to have an adult conversation
or looking for a minute of rest before the next "big" event-
feeding the crew
switching out the laundry, etc.
they sense it
and here they come
surrounding you
cutting off all hope
of escape
or a moment to yourself
(I am not comparing children to dogs, but when these three interrupted Sarah and I this evening I thought about motherhood moments)
you do your best to let them know,
"I see you"
"you are important"
while also assuring the others
you will meet their needs too
Sarah proofread this post for me and she said, "Sometimes I feel like swiss cheese. Like my children are going to fall through the holes. And God is like Colby Jack-I trust He is underneath and will catch them." I like her analogy.

one decides they are being neglected
and they get all up in your face,
making it impossible to miss their bid for your undivided attention,
not that you were ignoring them in the first place,
but you are one person
and there is no way you can "pet" all three at one time
you do your best to let them know,
"I see you"
"you are important"
while also assuring the others
you will meet their needs too
sometimes one walks away
and you are left to wonder-
was their "love tank" filled
or did they simply give up jockeying for position
if you are feeling overwhelmed
surrounded
unsure
take heart
keep loving
keep doing your best
and remember
God is bigger than your doubts, insecurities and inadequacies-
He will fill in the gaps
