#Brother#Family#KCU Football

Saturday afternoon I watched KCU's last football game of the 2016 season. It was Sr. Day. Some former players came. It was wonderful to see them on the sidelines and to get to visit with several of them after the game. I miss my guys who have graduated. It is always good to get a hug and catch up on what is going on in their lives.

I am going to share part of what one of them posted on FB at the end of the day: "Everyday we miss you Shad. We had to have a dinner/Family time for you today to honor you! We love you and miss you. As always you're our brother no matter what...It's always a plus (to remember the old times) like family...and like the touchdown you dived in and made to win the game! Man you are missed...#Brother#Family#KCU Football"

When people publically remember and honor someone I love and no longer get to share life with I experience a special pain and a unique sweet joy. Pain because I miss the one who is gone and because I cannot share the words of honor (or anything else) with them. The sweet joy comes from knowing someone else loves them still and remembers and misses them too. Sometimes I get the added bonus of a new memory or a reminder of something I had forgotten to tuck away for later comfort.

and some think football is just a game...
