I Surrender

Sometimes I am afraid-
afraid I will forget;
afraid I will never forget.

Sometimes I am fearful-
fearful I will get "it" wrong;
fearful I will not even try.

Sometimes I am weary-
weary of the everyday chores;
weary of the unexpected issues.

Sometimes I am stressed-
stressed from hard things;
stressed from good things.

Sometimes I am tired-
tired of "things" changing;
tired of "things" being the same.

Sometimes I want to scream-
scream "I hate this";
scream "Thank you God for this."

Sometimes I want to hold on-
hold on to the way it has always been done;
hold on as new opportunities are presented.

Sometimes I surrender.

I Surrender All

lyrics by Judson W. Van DeVenter 1896

All to Jesus I surrender;
  1. All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.
    • Refrain:
      I surrender all,
      I surrender all;
      All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
      I surrender all.
  2. All to Jesus I surrender;
    Humbly at His feet I bow,
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.
  3. All to Jesus I surrender;
    Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
    Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
    Truly know that Thou art mine.
  4. All to Jesus I surrender;
    Lord, I give myself to Thee;
    Fill me with Thy love and power;
    Let Thy blessing fall on me.
  5. All to Jesus I surrender;
    Now I feel the sacred flame.
    Oh, the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory, to His Name!

    I am finding that as time passes,
    more often than not
    I actually give up-
    give up my fears;
    give up my burdens;
    give up my expectations;
    give up needing to figure it out.
    I find myself more naturally
    Obeying. Trusting. Learning. Resting.
    These times make me want to give up more.

    "Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden,
    and I will give you rest.
    Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me,
    for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
    and you will find rest for your souls.
    For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
    Matthew 11:28-30
