One size fits all?

"One size fits all."
At one time that was a clothing size.
I do not have a lot of fashion sense, but even I know that is a lie.
I think it has been amended to "One size fits most."
Still not true.
Someone who wears a size 18W has no business trying to wear something designed and sized for a size 8Jr.
No one is fooled but you if you think you look good wearing clothing that is too small or too big for that matter.

It is the same in lifestyle choices.

If I focus on

what others are doing

or what "they" are not doing

or what I think
"they" think I should be doing

or what I think
"they" think I should not be doing

or what I know
they think I should
or should not be doing
because they have been "kind" enough to tell me,

I get discouraged.

I make bad choices.

I can end up looking foolish.

Sometimes the pressure to get "it" right is intimidating.

My solution?

Stop. Look. Listen. Put "it" on. Practice living "it".

(This is just one of many passages that tell us what we are supposed to put on.)

"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,  compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:12-17

The righteousness that comes through Christ
and the life we are called to live in Him was designed to fit all.

It isn't always comfortable, but it is designed to fit.
And the more I wear it, the more I live in it,
the more comfortable it becomes.
Like a t-shirt or pair of jeans that become a favorite.
And after awhile I can't imagine "it" not being part of what I wear.

I know that not everyone chooses to be clothed by our Designer.

A Christ follower has no business trying to live by the standards of those who are not believers. We are only deceiving ourselves if we think that life looks good on us.
And we are foolish and unrealistic if we expect those who are not Christ followers to live by the standards we choose to live by.

I am convinced that while the core components of our lives               (holiness, knowing we are His beloved, compassion, etc.)
are the same for all believers, the materials God chooses to flesh out the wardrobes of His beloved children is varied, beautiful and unique to each individual. I want to embrace what He is doing in my life, what He has chosen for me. The only way to do that is to accept and put on what He gives me and not try to raid another person's closet.

Does one size fit all?
You have to decide for yourself.
