another reminder he's gone

I did something new today.
Not new for me, but new since becoming a widow.
I have been putting it off,
but could not move forward with some things without doing it.
I went to Huntington by myself on a shopping tour.
My children know fully what this means-
an all out mission that takes hours to complete.

Driving home with a trunk full I thought:
"No one would know if I did not make it home.
At least, not before tomorrow at soccer practice."
Another reminder I am a widow, 
my children are grown with lives and families of their own.
It is both unsettling and a relief to know I can come and go at will,
no one is depending on me, no one will worry if I run late.

It is annoying to have to unload a trunk full of purchases by myself.
Oh the things I took for granted 
when my family was part of my daily life.
