Storm Clouds and Rainbows
I was standing beside coach watching the girls scrimmage.
Behind us we saw that storm clouds had gathered.
As we stood, with occasional commentary, we noticed that the clouds had moved in an unexpected direction and were now in front of us.
I returned to my lawn chair, no longer paying attention to the sky.
I was watching the players at both ends of the pitch.
(Guys practice on one end, girls on the other.)
I heard; "Look, a rainbow!"
I wish my phone took more accurate photos.
These do not capture the intensity of the contrast.
And the stark contrast was my original reason
for wanting a picture of this particular rainbow.
It is a good image of my view of life in Christ.
Clouds gather.
Ominous, potentially dangerous storms lurk.
But they are only a backdrop to the beauty of life in Christ.
I can focus on the clouds.
I can focus on the rainbow.
I can find beauty in the blend,
but only as I trust that God is at work in the midst of it all.
I am convinced that God is faithful.
I know that God keeps His promises.
Every single one of them.
And His promises are beautiful.

I heard; "Look, a rainbow!"
"The sun makes rainbows when white sunlight passes
through rain drops. The raindrops act like tiny prisms.
They bend the different colors in white light, so the light spreads out into a band of colors that can be reflected back to you as a rainbow."

Life in Christ does not exempt us from storms.
It does not keep us from feeling the painful effects of storms.
Living by faith does enable us to navigate through storms.
I think the Son makes rainbow beauty in our lives
when we allow His light to pass through the raindrops in our lives.
The raindrops act like tiny prisms.
As His light is reflected, color that comes only from Him appears.
I did not notice the double rainbow when I took the initial photo.
I was focused on trying to capture the beauty of what first caught my eye.
|
I watched as it stretched its way across the sky. |
As more of the rainbow revealed itself,
the double rainbow also became more evident.
|
The first rainbow was so distinct you could clearly see all the colors:
violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.
I wish they were clear in these pictures.
