safety

Sunday morning during the communion meditation
a friend shared about a family gathering last summer.
One of their own was heading off to war soon.
The family gathered around him and prayed for his safety.
After the prayer the soldier told his family:
"I am not 'going' to be safe
I am 'going' to fight a war.
Don't pray for my safety,
pray for my bravery."

That military man's words
spoke deeply to my heart.

Being a Christian
is living in relationship with God.

Anyone who is a friend of God,
everyone who is in relationship with God,
is, by nature an enemy of the Evil One.

Christianity is not a "safe life".
It does not make one exempt from
trouble
heartache
trial
temptation
suffering
disappointment
hurt.

Christianity,
living in relationship with God
is a life that makes peace in the midst of the storms possible.
Living in relationship with God can also open our eyes to beauty in the storm.

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

  1. This has spoken to me deeply. Trudging through life is made easier when we rely on God. Praise the Lord that he allows us to be with Him.
