why pumpkin pie this weekend made sense

Pumpkin pie?
On a Saturday in August?
When the heat index is 110+?
Totally appropriate and doable
especially when it was one of Bill's favorites
and the girl in teal asked if I can make a pumpkin pie before they leave.

No crust?
No problem,
I'll just make one from scratch.
(A rare event-
but love motivates and enables us to do crazy things.)
No time to waste,
they leave Monday.

I'm a little wiser than I was two years ago-
I asked for pictures the day before they leave
rather than day of.
Saying see you in two years is hard.
And multiple experiences doesn't make it any easier.

Seven years ago today, August 29, Bill went home to be with Jesus.
Thinking about that day is hard.
And multiple experiences doesn't make it any easier.
What does make it bearable is the assurance that
his last breath here was his first breath in heaven.

This morning Cristian took his next step of faith and was baptized.
Today we are holding onto and focusing on the reasons we have to rejoice,
even in the midst of tears and sadness.
His (God's) promises still stand.
Great is His faithfulness in every situation.
