the intruder

viola's make me smile
I bought some last year, 
planted them in a container 
and put it on my front porch to greet everyone who passed
when I came home the other day this little guy caught my eye

a wayward seed 
somehow made its way to the ground 
and lay dormant for months on end
was somehow covered by dirt 
enough to germinate, take root, grow 

this beautiful flower,
unplanned but not unwanted,
battled unfavorable odds to get to where it is today
the only one of its kind in my yard, it went unnoticed until it bloomed 

it is a welcome intruder
