rainy days and Fridays...

sitting in the family room
rain coming down in sheets
five grandchildren waiting for it to stop-
two littles
two bigs
and one in-between
so we can go on the walk we were planning before lunch

it's a grand, hard day
momma came home this morning
but she has a road of recovery ahead
and anyone who has had invasive surgery knows
getting ready to leave the hospital
added to an hour long drive home
plus getting in the house and settled is exhausting

the walk was a way to get the kids out of the house
to release some pent up energy and noise
to allow momma and aunt Beth to get some sleep
anyone who has spent a night or two in the hospital for any reason
knows it is not a place to rest
for me it will be an opportunity to process some thoughts
and release some tension that comes from having a loved one in the hospital

minions movie
mine craft
mindless scrolling on the computer
maybe not the best way to pass time
but this afternoon there are few other options
I am hoping the rain stops soon
so we can go on our much needed walk

a line of a song from high school days keeps running through my mind
"rainy days and Mondays always get me down"
but the funny thing is, they rarely do
it wasn't until I looked up the lyrics
that I remembered this song was sung by the Carpenters
a group Bill and I listened to together
we used one of their songs in our wedding

"look grandma, it quit raining!
oh, wait, it is still raining. Look outside grandma!"
"I know, you should see the front yard, there are puddles!"
"yay! we can go out and play in the big puddles
and get all wet and splash big!"
Sounds like a great way to end this rainy day to me:
running, well, walking, and playing with some of the ones who love me :)

p.s. I can feel the sun trying to break through, gotta run!
Part of the lyrics from Rainy Days and Mondays
As I read them I realized each time I suffer a case of the blues I always wind up in the same place- running to and falling on my face before the throne of Grace, pouring out my heart to the One who loves me. It is a wonderful place of healing and comfort. A place that cures the blues.
Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothin' ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Funny, but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny, but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me (the one who loves me)
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out (talk it out)
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around (hangin' around)
Nothin' to do but frown
Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
Funny, but it seems that it's the only thing to do (only thing to do)
Run and find the one who loves me...
